Kelsie and I are always looking for convenient snack foods to take to work during the week. As easy as it is to grab one of the pre-packaged bags of salty goodness out of the office snack drawer, throwing this homemade party mix in the slow cooker is just as easy. And honestly more delicious than the packaged variety.
Chex Mix was (still is?) one of my favorite snacks growing up, but I would always leave a few pieces left in the bag. Those little flavorless bread stick thingies – not a fan. Homemade is the best because you can add your favorites and flavor it however you like. We went with some classics in this mix with Chex cereal, pretzels, oyster crackers, Goldfish and flavorful Lord Nuts peanuts.
Not only is the mix coated in butter and zesty ranch seasoning, but it gets a little kick of extra flavor from the Lord Nuts White Cheddar Jalapeño peanuts. We recently got to try a box of sample flavors, or “Nut Case”, from Lord Nut Levington and were surprised by the inventive flavors that go beyond salted or honey roasted. Each flavor provides a surprising combo and a hint of spice. Our favorite flavor was the Bloody Mary which was coated in a slightly spicy, horseradish seasoning. Hello, Sunday football snack.
This Zesty Crock-Pot Chex Mix does the job when the 11:00 snack cravings hit at work, but I’ll also be keeping this recipe on hand for upcoming game days and holiday parties. The Lord Nuts are even flavorful and satisfying enough on their own to keep in your drawer at work, or set out with appetizers for company. Also loving that these come from a Southlake-based entrepreneur and Shark Tank participant (yay, locals!). You can pick s ome up at a variety of grocery stores or order online here.
P.S.- don’t be bummed if you end up with some burnt pieces in your mix, I personally loved the little toasted bits sprinkled throughout.
