Hiiii guys, happy Sunday! How are we already more than a week into April? It feels like it was just winter, except not really, because it never got that cold. As the weather gets warmer, our schedules seem to get busier with happy hours outside with friends. We’re always looking for a new, good patio to take people (with equally as good food), and we’ve found it – Pie Tap.
Y’all know we are self-proclaimed pizza connoisseurs and tend to stick with our favorites in town. Since we (try to) eat healthy at least 80% of the time, if we’re going to eat pizza, it has to be good. Worth that early AM workout, yanno? Unfortunately, that can be hard to find sometimes – but when we heard Pie Tap’s dough only has five ingredients in it, we knew we had to try it.
One of our favorite things about traveling is how fresh the food in Europe is. Italians eat whole pizzas and plates of pasta by themselves, Spaniards eat fresh loaves of bread and the French croissants. And, they do this (fairly) guilt-free. Almost everything in Europe is fresh with minimal preservatives/added sugar. Not exactly the case in the States.
Thankfully, Chef Giovanni Maura understands this, since he’s from Siciliy where we hear pizza’s a big deal. Pie Tap’s dough is made of water, flour, olive oil, sea salt and yeast that is naturally fermented during the 96 hours that it sits. No sugar, no weird stuff. The result? Amazing. Like seriously good. The crust is thin and chewy, yet sturdy enough to hold its ingredients.
And the ingredients on top are fresh, too. The prosciutto ‘za was our favorite, with pistachios, dates, housemade ricotta (to die for), arugula and a balsamic glaze. Although there were quite a few toppings, it was still light, and we definitely didn’t feel guilty eating it.
If you haven’t been to Pie Tap, GO! The pizza is now for sure one of our favorites in town (if not our favorite). We didn’t feel overly full or stuffed leaving, which is sometimes inevitable leaving a pizza place. The other menu items are just as good – the hummus, spiadini, everything is made with fresh and flavorful ingredients.
Oh, and there’s wine on tap AND our new favorite frozen drink perfect for the hot days – vodka and ROASTED rosemary lemonade. So good, y’all. The sprawling patio (at the Henderson location) is perfect for sipping on cocktails and noshing on pizza, guilt-free. There are also ONE. DOLLAR. bellinis at brunch through the month of April, so you know where to find us the next three weekends!
