Summer is on the horizon, and with it comes patio season. The warm weather is gradually blowing in, we’re sloughing off the winter blues, and the sun stays up a bit longer for us to get a little extra Vitmamin D. While some may celebrate the arrival of the season with outdoors-y activities like lake days or exploring the Cedar Ridge Preserve, we prefer to do what we do best – eat and drink all the things.
To help you take advantage of the long, sunny Summer days, we’ve rounded up some of our favorite Dallas patios for sittin’ and sippin’. Between refreshing margs, bomb bbq and too many quesos to count, these Dallas spots are serving up more than sunshine.
We may not have been around when this Dallas institution was originally open, but we are so glad it’s back. The patio in the front has retractable shades, so you don’t have to worry too much about the heat, but what we’re REALLY excited for is the new patio opening up this month in the back – it’s dog friendly and will be the perfect spot for sipping half-price bottles of champagne on Sundays.
Leave it up to us to sneak any of the Mesero restaurants into any and every relevant list of suggestions. This Dallas staple has a few locations across the metroplex, but our go-to Mr. Mesero is off of Knox/Henderson, where there’s a patio ideal for people watching. First things first: order up around of Micoritas and queso.
Although it could be considered more of a backyard than a patio, The Rustic’s sprawling outdoor space couldn’t not make the list. With communal tables (boasting umbrellas) and surrounding lawn space, there’s plenty of room to plop down, sip a schooner of local beer and enjoy the live music. Grab an outside table on Saturday morning for a family-style brunch that’s hard to beat!
After you’ve polished off some cactus fritters, take a pic with the BIG sign here and enter Visit Dallas’ #DallasBIGMoments contest for a chance to win *amazing* prizes!
This Lakewood spot provides the perfect combo of good drinks, great food and a patio that will give you some serious design inspo for your own backyard (or small apartment patio). Order rose by the carafes and eat some of the best wings we’ve ever had.
Nestled behind Meso Maya, La Ventana is the perfect spot for enjoying authentic tacos and margs in the sunshine. Head to this outdoor Mexican oasis on weekdays from 2 – 6p.m. for TWO DOLLAR margaritas, beers and michealadas. Oh, and order a Lengua taco. Don’t ask questions – just do it and thank me later.
I love this patio because it essentially feels like you’re sitting on you grandma’s wrap-around porch hanging with family. Only, swap the sweet tea for rosé and the finger sandwiches for an entire plate of burnt ends. Yeah.
Our friends know we cannot stay away from Stirr these days. Like really, the staff is beginning to recognize us. The covered patio upstairs offers an Instagram-worthy view of Downtown and is likely lively day or night. If you’re looking for a Sunday Funday this spring – this is IT. Share a pitcher of the Sweet Escape and dance the Sunday Scaries away.
Duh. Adding Ice House to the list simply because it’d be weird not to. Beautiful day in store? You can bet a third of Dallas will be guzzling Summer Beers on the patio and stalking tables until someone looks like they might be leaving. The chances of you 1. running into someone you know and 2. polishing off a order of cheese fries are VERY high.
