For the past year or so, Lexi and I have been investing more of our time (and money) into working out consistently. Although one of the definite perks of having a blog that focuses on food is, well, the food, we quickly realized eating out frequently would have a negative side to it if we didn’t take care of ourselves. So, we now aim to work out at least five times a week. Lexi does Class Pass, and I have a membership at Zyn22 (both are amazing!). But, we have hectic schedules and never know when we’ll really get off work, meaning the only real free time we have to go to classes is the early AM before the sun rises.
When we started working out at 5:30 and 6:30 in the morning, it was a definite adjustment for our schedules. Your metabolism obviously starts going, and while that’s good, I’m hungry like, all of the time. We decided to detail how we refuel and refresh to keep us going for a full day!
I don’t eat or drink anything before I go to spin (um mainly because I wake up 15 minutes before class starts and don’t have time) – but Lexi normally will snack on a little something. After workouts while we’re getting ready for the day, we’ll have hot water with a lemon wedge and teaspoon of apple cider vinegar.
Dry shampoo has become my best friend. I’m adamant about only washing my hair about twice a week, so I’ll blow dry the sweat out of my hair (#transparency) and dry shampoo the you-know-what out of it. I’ve tried it all, and the Aveda shampure dry shampoo is the. best. It’s powder-based and smells amazing, like all Aveda products. I’ve also recently been “washing” my face after workouts with Micellar water, and it is so refreshing!
When I get to work, I’ll have coffee and breakfast. Normally, I have two hard boiled eggs and a piece of Ezekiel toast, but we also eat overnight oats and yogurt a lot.
We both have small snacks and (obviously) lunch at work and try to drink a ton of water. We’ll try to meal prep ahead of time and will pack snacks like hummus + carrots or fruit, but sometimes we don’t have time for that, and I know a lot of you don’t either. We discovered Freshii meal boxes, which are lifesavers. It’s a box full of food (yes, please). You can pick from three different categories, and each box comes with breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as two snacks. Like I said, lifesaver.

If we don’t have an event/restaurant to go to for the blog, we’ll come home and eat dinner. Again, Freshii meal boxes are a time saver here, because we rarely have the desire to cook dinner after working all day.
Also, as tempting (and sometimes necessary) as it is to reach for that bottle of wine after a long day, we’ve cut down on our weekday drinking significantly. Especially with how early our alarms go off, we definitely feel it if we had one too many glasses of wine. Also, we’re old and can’t bounce back like we used to.
How do y’all refuel and refresh after workouts??
