Let’s talk burgers. And booze. And cheese fries. Sound good?
If you said no, then BOY, BYE. But really, is there anything as comforting as a cheeseburger? Other than pizza, of course.
Burgers are one of the things I absolutely love to eat, but rarely do. We don’t have a grill, so that basically nixes making them at home, and when I do eat one at a restaurant, it needs to be a really, really good one. High quality beef, good cheese, homemade bun.. the fixin’s. Basically, it better be worth my work out.
We recently stopped in to Grub Burger Bar with some friends to taste the menu. We had heard of it, but hadn’t had the chance to make it in yet. The space, located off of Greenville Ave., is beautifully designed, and has a giant parking lot (major plus given the location). The staff was welcoming and knowledgeable about the menu. We started off tasting a few of the cocktails, but our favorite, hands-down, was the Blueberry Lime Lite (it’s even the “skinny” drink on the menu at 95 cals). It was light, refreshing and would be the perfect patio sipper. Another favorite was the signature ‘rita, and when I heard Grub infuses their tequila themselves with berries and jalapenos, I knew we were off to a good start.
Next came the appetizers – seared ahi tuna, chicken strips + fries, and luau fries, which are their skinny-cut fries, topped with cheeses, pulled pork and PINEAPPLE. They were so decadent and so delicious. The chicken fingers were also a table favorite and came with an array of dipping sauces, but the ranch is where it’s at.
And because we weren’t done stuffing our faces quite yet, we tried several of the burgers – the Jive Turkey (house-ground patty with pesto so it stays moist (sorry)), the Guacapolte, the Dr Pepper Lockhart Legend and the You’re My Boy, Blue (with an added egg!). Each burger was flavorful and the meat was cooked to perfection. My favorite was probably the Jive Turkey – the housemade bun was one of the best I’ve had, and was topped with oats, so it’s basically healthy.
And because AGAIN we weren’t done stuffing our faces, we had to end dinner with adult milkshakes. Obviously. We tried the Tipsy Dirt n Worms, the Mint Chocolate and the Birthday Cake – all were made with flavored vodka and all were delicious. The Dirt n Worms was my favorite – it was a grown-up cookies & cream milkshake.
We’re now throwing Grub into our go-to rotation of restaurants. They have a full bar, killer happy hour specials, and a ton of TVs. It’s a perfect spot whether you’re grabbing an after-work drink, or taking the family out for a relaxed dinner.
It’s worth sweating your ass off in the gym, y’all.
