Summer is alllmost here, and we’re afraid it’s going to be an *extra* hot one in Dallas (I think we say that every summer?!). We normally spend the summers going from one air-conditioned place to the next, or sitting in the pool with a cold beer and/or marg in hand. And, obviously, because our lives revolve around food, we like to eat (and drink) refreshing dishes in an attempt to keep our mind off of the insane heat.
Luckily, Dallas has no shortage of cool dishes and drinks, and we’ve rounded up some of our favorites for ya!
Soft-shell crab from Water Grill
One of our favorite new restaurants in town is now serving one of our favorite dishes that’s perfect as the temps start to warm – a soft-shell crab (that’s flown in daily!!), lightly fried and sitting atop a perfectly refreshing cucumber and watermelon salad. We ate it in about 10 seconds and dare you not to, too.
Grilled Carrot + Avo Salad from CBD
We’ll admit we’d never had grilled carrots, but we’re officially fans thanks to CBD Provisions inside the chic Joule hotel. This salad is a cool combo of grilled carrots, chunks of fresh avocado, crispy quinoa with a little creme fraiche to tie it all together. SO good and the perfect light lunch.
Frozen Ripsaw from Pie Tap
Frozen + boozy, can’t go wrong. The frozen ripsaw might be better than a frozen marg – it combines vodka and rosemary lemonade for a delicious, boozy and refreshing drink. Pair it with any of Pie Tap’s killer pizzas or appetizers and you’re sure to forget it’s almost 120 degrees outside.
Agua Fresca from Cane Rosso
If you’re looking for something less boozy to sip on, order the agua fresca during Cane Rosso’s brunch. The flavor changes regularly, and like all things at Cane Rosso, is housemade with fresh ingredients.
Poke/Sushi from Pok
Poke bowls are having a moment in Dallas right now, and we’re here for it. The sushi-grade tuna is light and bright yet filling, and the best part is it’s totally customizable. Pok in West Village serves up a variety of toppings and bases (including cauliflower rice!), so anyone will find a dish they’ll love. Want a more sophisticated dinner? Sit at the raw bar and let Chef Jimmy serve you courses-on-courses of the freshest fish.
Avocado Hummus from Flower Child
Everyone knows hummus is yummus. And no, we’ll never stop using that cheesy saying. But, have you tried avocado hummus? Its yummus-er, creamier, flavorful and Flower Child’s avo hummus is the perfect little side or starter for a Summer meal. Sub the pita for some fresh veggies and go crazy on the cool, fresh dip.
Gazpacho from Snap Kitchen
No time for a sit-down deal, but craving something refreshing and light? Stop by Snap Kitchen and pick up a bottle of gazpacho for a veggie-filled pick-me-up on the go.
