Eighty-nine years old and still traveling the world. #GOALS. Three million Instagram followers. Also #GOALS. Baddie Winkle has taken social media by storm with her colorful personality, expressive style and unapologetic attitude. The self-proclaimed “Insta-Granma” just embarked on the trip of a lifetime with Hotels.com to check off spots on her “Badass Bucket List.” Between mixing cocktails on an NYC rooftop, rubbing shoulders with NFL players, and helicoptering over the Grand Canyon – she really is living her best life. And, we’re jealous.
Baddie recently visited Dallas and stayed at the one-of-a-kind Lorenzo Hotel after experiencing the VIP treatment at a Dallas Cowboys game. The Lorenzo was the perfect spot for Baddie considering the hotel is as vibrant and unique as she is!
Before she jetted off on her next adventure, we got to chat with the influencer and hear all about her bucket list trip and what she’s learned after decades of traveling! Here’s to hoping we’re still exploring the world ~60 years from now.
Pizza + Champagne: Which cities are you visiting on your bucket list tour?
Baddie Winkle: We’re traveling across North America, Brazil and Europe, so we’ve been to Canada and New York, and now we’re in Dallas! Next, I get to fly over the Grand Canyon in a helicopter, then we visit Rio, England, Paris, London and Ireland. Hotels.com has given me my life’s dream!
P+C: You mentioned a few places on our own bucket list, so we’re pretty jealous.
BW: Well, everybody should be jealous, really. All my friends are just so jealous, but I wish they could be with me!
P+C: What are some of the bucket list activities you’re most excited for?
BW: In Rio, I’m going to get to dance the samba, which should be so fun! I’m not sure what all we’re going to get into in Rio, but whatever it is, I’m sure it will be great.
P+C: What inspired you to become a mega-influencer? Did you ever think you’d have over 3 million followers?
BW: This is out of my realm of thinking! I still can’t believe it, and it’s overwhelming. I really don’t know what I have done to deserve all these blessings. But, it’s been a wild ride!
P+C: What is your favorite hotel you’ve ever stayed at?
BW: You know, we’re at this great hotel right here in Dallas – the Lorenzo. It is beautiful and SO unique – I just love it, and the people here are great. It’s really the neatest place. We’re actually looking at this colorful Albert Einstein right now as we lay by the pool!
P+C: When it comes to traveling, what tips do you have for the younger generation?
BW: Obey the rules! And, if you don’t understand where to go, there is always somewhere right there to tell you or show you. When you’re younger you tend to get lost, so don’t be afraid to ask! Some people are very intimidated when it comes to asking questions, and I’m definitely not. Nothing intimidates me! So, my tip would be to always ask if you’re lost or confused.
P+C: How would you describe your personal style?
BW: Oh, I love color, I’ve always loved bright colors! I guess you could describe me as kind of forward, but I’ve always been that way and still am. I like to dress young, and just do my thing! I think you should wear whatever you like to wear, and don’t pay attention to what other people say. If you look good in it – wear it, honey!
P+C: People have called you a style icon, who are your personal fashion muses?
BW: Definitely Miley Cyrus! She’s a great kid, and you know, we’re actually kind of alike.
P+C: What is the one item you can’t travel without?
BW: My phone! I have to have my phone, for sure. I would be lost without it. And, I have to use it to post pictures on Instagram, of course.
P+C: Your Instagram tagline is “Stealing your man since 1928” – how has travel changed from the 1930s to now?
BW: Oh my gosh! It’s nothing like it used to be. Back in the ‘30s, when I was young, we still used a horse and wagons! I grew up on a farm, and it was totally different. You would have had to have lived it to really see the changes. We enjoyed life, and we didn’t know any different, but it is completely different, and it makes you appreciate traveling now!
So, as you can see Baddie is 89 years young and full of life and adventure. Follow along with her trip around the world, and I’m sure it’ll inspire you to make a bucket list of your own!
